Young workers are at high risk of injury on the job.

Young workers are often new workers. Lack of experience and fear of asking questions can lead young workers into dangerous situations that can result in serious injuries or even loss of life. They may take on tasks they aren't ready for because they are eager to please. They may not be able to recognize hazards. Tasks might be beyond what they are physically capable of doing. These things and more put them at high risk of injury on the job.

The WSCC can help young workers - and new workers - reduce risks by taking the WSCC's Workplace Safety: Safety and the Young Worker program.

Who Should Care?

  • Young Workers
  • Employers
  • Parents and Teachers

Workplace Safety: Safety and the Young Worker provides basic safety education, including rights and responsibilities, WHMIS, kitchen safety, working with electricity, and more. It is available in hard copy or as an interactive CD. A PDF of the manual can be found here.

Please call the WSCC at 1-800-661-0792 in the NWT or 1-877-404-4407 in Nunavut for more information.
